Building capability in students for respectful and inclusive conversations
As the hosts of the IPE Colloquium™ event, the Australian Pharmacy Council invites you to submit an abstract for consideration in the 2026 IPE Colloquium™ event program.
The 2026 event theme will explore how we equip future health professionals with the capabilities to have meaningful, inclusive conversations that help our communities and colleagues feel heard, respected, and empowered.
Under this overarching theme, we invite presentations on case studies and/or activities that have provided opportunities for students to build skills for respectful and inclusive conversations.
This could include (but is not limited to):

An educational activity that has been effective in building skills in students to have respectful and inclusive conversations.

An effective case study based on lived experience that provides examples of best practice, that has nurtured effective and inclusive communication.

Guidance on how to design and implement educational tools and frameworks for inclusive conversations.
-
Case study and/or activity includes element/s of interprofessional education in relation to the abstract theme.
Who is encouraged to submit
We welcome submissions from:
-
Educators and health professionals/supervisors from any health profession
-
Collaborative teams across health professions - joint presentations encouraged
Each presentation may include up to two presenters. Additional authors can be listed in the abstract.
Funding is available for up to two presenters per presentation, covering:

Event registration
-
Travel within Australia
-
One night of accommodation
You are encouraged to invite a student to share their perspective. Student presenters will receive complimentary registration. They may apply for external funding (e.g. NAPSA for pharmacy students) or the APC student scholarship for travel and accommodation support, which opens later this year.
Audience
The IPE Colloquium attracts health profession education providers, academics, policy makers, students, supervisors and preceptors, and at times health practitioners.
General information

A maximum of 3 presentations will be selected.

Presentations are to be no more than 20 minutes. Each presentation will be followed by a 5-minute Q&A.

Submission requirements
For selection, we ask you to submit:

An abstract paper detailing the case study and/or activity, its impact, and key learnings.

A 1-minute video featuring the presenter/s explaining the abstract.

We will use this video for promotional purposes and play the video at the event

Abstract review
The abstract papers and video submissions will be reviewed and selected by the IPE Colloquium 2026 Program Committee from mid-January 2026. Selection will ensure that all presentations at the IPE Colloquium 2026 are education-based, engaging and align with the theme of the year.

For context, the learning outcomes for the IPE Colloquium are as follows:

Understand the importance of educating future health professionals for respectful and inclusive conversations with patients

Explore emerging tools and share best practice, challenges and strategies to engage in respectful and inclusive conversations with patients and the health care team

Identify strategies across health disciplines how to foster inclusive and respectful behaviours between health professionals

Learn how to provide opportunities for students to build skills for respectful and inclusive conversations

Demonstrate awareness of lived experiences to understand how they empower voices and support respectful, inclusive conversations
