Essene Cassidy is a registered Children’s, General and Public Health Nurse. Her particular areas of interest are child health & development, immunisations and corporate governance.
In September 2020 Essene left her role as Director of Public Health Nursing, Dublin North City and County to become the Head of Older Persons Services, Community Health Organisation Dublin North City and County. Essene is responsible for the delivery of services to older people in the community as well as overseeing strategic change in services for the future. Essene has the responsibility for 15 Day Centres, 238 short stay beds and 264 long stay beds across the Dublin North Region.
In addition, she was elected to the NMBI Board in 2012 and appointed by the Board as President in 2016. In this role, she has led a significant change agenda and rebuilt the trust and confidence in the organisation amongst key stakeholders and parent Department. Her experience of identifying strategic change initiatives and overseeing their development and conclusion, together with her Board experience have provided her with unique knowledge and lived experience of regulatory and governance responsibilities.
Internationally she works with the International Nurse Regulators Collaborative (INRC), National Council for the State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a committee member on the Council for Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) and was recently appointed to their faculty to deliver regulatory leadership training internationally. She recently completed an Advanced diplomas is Medical Law and Quasi Judicial Decision Making with the Kings Inns in Ireland.
